#castrovalley#news#fyi – Fast food chain Chick-fil-A is no longer in a contract with the owners of the lumberyard on Castro Valley Boulevard to open a restaurant at that location. Last month a rep for the restaurant chain went before the Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Council with plans for a 5,116 square foot 98 seat restaurant at the corner of Stanton and CV Boulevard. During the meeting, significant opposition mounted from the council and community, citing concern for additional traffic the restaurant would bring to an already congested area of Castro Valley. Also, a student from Castro Valley High School went so far as to present a petition with over 100 signatures in opposition of the proposed project, specifically pointing to Chick-fil-A’s long history of donating to charities that have anti-LGBTQ stances. The lumberyard does not plan to close. They hope to reorient the corner with a smaller footprint and bring in other artisan tenants to share the space with.
