Around 9:15 PM Monday night, patrol units with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alarm at the Wells Fargo ATM machines on Redwood Road. Upon arrival, deputies noticed the front casing around the ATM had been removed. Deputies located a suspect inside the ATM room who refused to come out and entry by deputies could not be made safely through the narrow opening. Since the suspect continually refused to surrender, an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was utilized. The suspect broke free from the K-9 and dove out of the building to the waiting arms of deputies and surrendered without further incident. During the apprehension, the K-9 sustained a laceration to the nose that required multiple sutures. The suspect was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail after treatment at Eden Hospital.
